ABOUT OUR ASSOCIATION
The Alcoholic Beverages Association of Kenya (ABAK) is an umbrella body that brings together Kenya’s leading manufacturers and distributors of adult alcoholic beverages.
ABAK supports the alcohol industry by providing training, information, and technical expertise to government agencies, consumers, value chain players, and society at large.
Founded in 2007, the Alcoholic Beverages Association of Kenya (ABAK) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a responsible, sustainable, and well-regulated alcoholic beverages industry in Kenya. Formerly known as the National Alcoholic Beverages Association of Kenya (NABAK), the Association was established to provide a unified platform for industry stakeholders to collaboratively address key sector challenges and advocate for common industry interests.
Since its inception, ABAK has played a pivotal role in championing responsible manufacturing practices, policy advocacy, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection. The Association has consistently supported national efforts aimed at addressing the challenge of illicit and unregulated alcoholic beverages through strategic partnerships, stakeholder engagement, and public sensitization initiatives.
Over the years, ABAK has conducted sensitization workshops across various counties and regions in Kenya, bringing together government agencies, enforcement bodies, the justice system, community leaders, and industry stakeholders to strengthen awareness, enhance collaboration, and promote compliance within the sector. These engagements have played a key role in fostering coordinated efforts towards combating illicit alcohol trade and advancing responsible consumption practices.
ABAK has also actively participated in industry research and evidence-based studies in collaboration with government agencies and other stakeholders to support informed decision-making and policy development. Through these collaborations, the Association has contributed to the development and improvement of industry policies, regulatory frameworks, and enforcement mechanisms that promote fairness, consumer safety, and sustainable industry growth.
In line with its commitment to ethical business conduct, ABAK members adhere to a shared Responsibility and Self-Regulatory Code, which guides member companies on responsible manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and consumption practices. This collective commitment underscores the Association’s dedication to accountability, integrity, and the promotion of high industry standards across the alcoholic beverages sector in Kenya.
